We are firm believers in the idea that, often, all you need for a little bit of adventure is just to take one step outside your front door. This mindset is what led us to take on our latest excursion: exploring our new home town of New Albany, Indiana.

When Mike and I first moved to the Louisville area, we were mostly focused on purchased a house on the Kentucky side of the river. Things seemed simpler, we were more familiar with it, and we knew we wouldn't have to navigate the new toll bridges. However, as we explored the various home search apps, we quickly realized that it was much more affordable to purchase a home on the Indiana side of the river.

We are very happy we made the decision to be here, because we have quickly fallen in love with our little city. Our street is quiet, older, and safe, with the endless charm of cute little cottages built right after World War II.

We live about 1 1/2 miles from the downtown area of the city. Just like Louisville, New Albany backs right up to the Ohio river. The quaint streets have been revived and rejuvenated, full of cute shops and wonderful restaurants. One of the local coffee shops, Quills, just moved from a street location to a cute little hole-in-wall down a side alley. It's like finding a hidden coffee gem, just by taking a quick turn off of the main drag.

Outside one of the local music shops sit two old upright pianos. They are out of tune and in horrible condition, but I love that it encourages anyone passing by to sit down and play a tune. Trippe certainly loved it.

Over the large, dirt wall protecting the city against flooding sits a wonderful amphitheater and riverfront park that Trippe can't get enough of. He always asks to go there anytime we drive by. I love that we have these wonderful options right in our backyard!

Wherever you live, just step out your front door and see what's right around where you live. Get to know your neighborhood like the back of your hand. You never know what adventure may take place!
